Diamonds 2010

Hi,
its been a while since i shared with you. As you might well know, the past 2.5 years have been really low for the diamond industry. Even De-beers the "giant" of the industry has been hit quite badly and made a loss last financial year.
What does that mean for you as a consumer? I would suggest that if you are in the market for a diamond ring, this is the best time to buy. Why you ask? Jewelers are desparate for business and you are likely to pick up some lovely bargains. However, be warned. This won't last for ever. The market should rebound by next year and the prices will start creeping up again.
Make sure you haggle and you'll be sure to get a nice discount.
PS: Avoid ebay when buying high end stuff. The pay off may not be worth it. Happy shopping!!!

The Future of Diamonds

Would you like to own a real diamond (as opposed to a synthetic?)

This is probably a good time to get one. Why is that you ask?

World Diamond production is slowing down.

This is despite the discovery of new mines in Canada & Russia.

The old established mines are coming to the end of their productive life and so Diamond prices are predicted to go up in the coming years.

The price of Gold is insane trading at $800 per ounce as of today.
Platinum is trading at $1470 an Ounce.

This trend could very well go up as the price of Oil went up by $2 closing in on the $90 per barrel mark.

Advice for the Holiday season, shop smart & buy Low!!

Happy hunting.

Diamond & Sapphire

Diamonds and Sapphires go really well together.
In as much as a they are different, they complement each other well.

Diamonds have a hardness of 10 on the Mohs Scale while Sapphire has a hardness of 9.

However Diamond is 10 times harder than Sapphire in actual terms.

I love the contrast between the white Diamond Color & the Blue tones of the Sapphire

Diamonds are much more expensive than Sapphire.

A 1 carat VSI, D-F color Diamond could retail for $9,000 while a Top quality 1 carat Sapphire retails for $ 850.

You can be extravagant and opt for a Large Diamond in the middle flanked by two small Sapphires e.g. in three stone diamond rings.
For a cheaper version, use smaller Diamonds & ordinary sized Sapphire.

Its amazing how much variety we can find if we take the time to learn a few things.
You not only end up saving money, you get to create unique rings.

Just like the real thing !!!

I have noticed that the US economy might be slowing down. This is due to a multitude of things the least of which being the Housing scandall !!

This means tightening our belts and leaves less money for us to spend on luxuries.
I don't like that. Not one bit !!

You see, am kinda partial to my 'bling'. Life is far too short not to have my fingers not look good.
Thats why i decided to find a cheaper source of Diamond rings.

Was i successful?? Well yes and no. I discovered Diamonds aren't CHEAP no matter which way you call it.

On the other hand, there are Synthetic Diamonds which are AFFORDABLE to downright cheap compared to real diamond rings.

Happy 2008 to all!!

I would like to wish you a great year full of the best for you and yours....then quickly get a bit controversial with my first blog of the year !!!

Is it only men who are obsessed with size?
I think not!!

Have you seen what ladies do when one of their "girlfriends" gets engaged?
Of course they are really happy for them, they hug and kiss even shed tears but as they do all that, some of them are actually scrutinizing the engagement ring in question!!
Not all of them will have very nice things to say about it either.

They might not go and blurt out "your diamond is really tiny" in front of their friends but while having a late with their tight pals, the gloves will come off!!

WHY?? You might ask? Blame it on jealousy....their boyfriend hasn't yet stepped up and proposed, maybe he did propose and got her a smaller ring or maybe she's married and her husband didn't even propose with a diamond ring.
It could also be simply the fact that we all seem to want what we don't have!!!

From my experience (and probably yours) the grass isn't greener South of the fence.
Be happy, genuinely happy for your girlfriend and remember, whatever the size of your diamond, it was given with LOVE!!

Precious Metal Update

Gold is moving on up. It has hit $670 an ounce. There were reports earlier in the year that it might go all the way to $1000 and ounce by December.

The weak Dollar isn't helping things either.

Platinum is holding at $1,300 an ounce.

Lets just hope jewellers will opt to make less profits and not raise jewellery prices too much.

Keep checking cause i woun't let you miss a thing.
